We have received some reports of members of University of Leicester security staff threatening physical violence and actually using physical violence against people in the process of peaceably leaving the Fielding Johnson building – which is currently being occupied by University of Leicester students in solidarity with our USS pensions strike.
Leicester UCU condemns any violence against our members and our supporters. We understand Leicester Students’ Union is currently investigating the allegations and is likely to make a formal complaint to Dave Hall, the Registrar and Chief Operating Officer, and Paul Boyle, the vice-chancellor, who is ultimately responsible for the behaviour of University of Leicester security. We will support the students’ union in this matter and pledge to defend our members and supporters.
