Dear Leicester UCU Members,
We are aware that many members are understandably concerned about the impact of Coronavirus and we are emailing about our current plan for picketing tomorrow. This is the final day of our current strike action and we are suggesting that picketing will go ahead at Leicester tomorrow. However, we will not be handing out leaflets and there will be no large rally at the end. We also encourage limited personal contact (i.e. avoiding hand shaking or hugging).
Some of the officers will be present tomorrow morning as usual. But, we impress upon you all that you should only attend the picket if you feel fit and well. Refer to the guidance issued by Public Health England about whether you should be self-isolating. The most recent guidance can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance. The University of Leicester is constantly updating their guidance and we encourage you to keep an eye on their FAQs both tomorrow and beyond: https://www2.le.ac.uk/institution/coronavirus/faq
If you do decide to stay away from the pickets tomorrow, consider joining in the digital picket and strike online! Share your favourite photos of the strike and tag @leicesterucu in your messages. We look forward to seeing them.
This is a rapidly changing situation, and if we decide to change our plans we will be in touch again.
In solidarity,
Sarah Seaton and Deirdre O’Sullivan
